From 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., companies from Dortmund and its surroundings will present themselves to international students who are interested in information on job entrance possibilities, internships or would like to get in touch with companies to network.

From 9:00 a.m. to noon, appointments for registered students will be taking place. In order to get an appointment, you need to upload your résumé and provide information about your studies, former work experience and your career goals. After a first matching, the companies will choose who they would like to invite for an appointment. So if you are lucky and have an appointment - even with a company that was not on your list - make sure to meet the company as they are interested in you and your skills. Appointments (time and name of the company) will be sent via e-mail in June!

Students without appointments have the possibility to talk to their favorite companies in the afternoon until 3:00 p.m. in an open space.

Please note that all information about the companies, the registration etc. will be provided on our German webpage, because all participating companies expect good German language skills.

Make sure that you are prepared well for the conversation with the companies. Read through their web pages and have a look at their job offers. Furthermore, you can visit our workshop "Der perfekte Businessauftritt" that will help you to understand how to interact with companies, what they are paying attention to, how to dress and what (not) to do. If you are interested in taking part in the workshop, for registration please read more here.

8th International Career Fair

on Thursday, 8 November 2018 in the IBZ

That was quick: Natalie Bartkowski, student of Economics at TU Dortmund University, attended the International Career Fair at TU Dortmund University in June of last year. A good two months later, on 1 September, she took up her position at MedVision AG in Unna. This is a success that the approximately 120 students from 29 countries who attended the 8th International Career Fair on Thursday, 8 November also hoped for.

Professor Gabriele Sadowski, Prorector Research at TU Dortmund University, said at the opening of the career fair that it was a great advantage for companies to meet students at the fair who, in addition to the knowledge acquired during their studies at TU Dortmund University, speak another language - their mother tongue - perfectly. And Wulf-Christian Ehrich, Deputy General Manager of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) of  Dortmund and member of the Association of Friends of TU Dortmund University, pointed out that companies receive a chance at this career fair to find qualified junior staff - "a good opportunity against the background of the shortage of skilled workers," he said. The fair was organized by the International Office of TU Dortmund University in cooperation with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) of Dortmund and the Association of Friends of TU Dortmund University.

Besides Natalie Bartkowski, Birol Sevim, a student of Computer Science at TU Dortmund University, also found a job at the career fair. Birol Sevim completed his Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and also experienced his entry into product implementation at MedVision as very exciting: "You must have a lot of knowledge to get a really good insight into the products. Here, I am becoming increasingly familiar with the tasks and the variety of functionalities of our products. As I am also involved in the implementation of the systems, I have a lot of contact with our customers - in our field, these are mainly doctors and professors - which I find very inspiring and motivating". MedVision AG, a second-generation family-run company based in Unna, Germany, develops and distributes standard user software for the medical sector.

About every eleventh student at TU Dortmund University comes from abroad. 3,600 young women and men from more than 100 countries are enrolled here. Four degree programs are held in English. The International Career Fair offers these students a perspective on possible career paths in the Dortmund region and throughout Germany.

Twenty-four companies based in Dortmund and the region used the fair in the International Meeting Center (IBZ) to introduce themselves to international students at TU Dortmund University. Osudio Deutschland GmbH and Dolezych GmbH & Co.KG attended the fair for the eighth time and were among the first companies to participate in the career fair. Other participants were Albonair GmbH, audalis Kohler Punge & Partner, Bruegmann GmbH & Co KG, catkin GmbH, Draheim Ingenieure Planungsgesellschaft GmbH, EBG group, Fleischhacker GmbH & Co. KG Laboreinrichtungen Medizintechnik, KHS GmbH, Kumavision AG, Lovion GmbH, MedVision AG, Murtfeldt Kunststoffe GmbH & Co KG, QSG Verkehrstechnik GmbH, Quick Release GmbH, RAM Holding Gmbh, Remondis Service International GmbH, Rhenus Office Systems, E-Metropole.Ruhr, Stadt Dortmund, Swiss Life Select Hamm, TU Dortmund University and tegos GmbH.

TU Dortmund University also used the career fair to look for young talents. "We are happy to hire graduates from our university, who we then prepare specifically for management positions," said Karolina Bihr from the Department of Human Resources and Legal Affairs.

7th International Career Fair

on Tuesday, 27 June 2017 in the IBZ

International students interested in staying and working in Germany after their graduation from TU Dortmund University, used the opportunity to visit two events at the TU Dortmund University “International Career Days” which had the goal of removing possible obstacles on the way to a successful career start. On Monday, 26 June, the IBZ hosted a workshop with the focus on “The perfect business image”. In this workshop by Marianne Montag, the students were introduced to the current standards in the German business world. They received information on how to interpret various manners in the business world and how to apply existing regulations in order to become more successful while interacting with colleagues and supervisors. Additionally, the workshop was a great opportunity to prepare for the international career fair on 27 June. For further information on the workshop, click here.IMG_9455

The career fair on 27 June offered students the opportunity to establish direct contact with company representatives of the 24 companies participating in the fair. Apart from Alboair, companies like audalis Kohler Punge & Partner, Bulten GmbH, Dolezych GmbH & Co.KG, EBG group, ELTROCON GmbH, GfTDmbH, Heli NET, ICA Traffic GmbH, IKEA Logistics GmbH, KHS GmbH, Knipp Medien und Kommunikation GmbH, KPS AG, LIDL Vertriebs-GmbH & Co.KG, MedVision AG, Osudio Deutschland GmbH, Paul Vahle GmbH & Co.KG, REMONDIS Service International GmbH, Stadt Dortmund, TEDi GmbH & Co.KG, thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions AG, voestalpine Böhler Welding Germany GmbH, WILO SE sowie Zapp Systems GmbH & Zapp Precision Metals GmbH introduced themselves. Getting to know companies as well as potential employers was only one aspect of the career fair. In addition, the 180 students who registered for the fair received the opportunity to gather information on visa matters and the right of residence after graduating from their degree programs. Experts from the international citizen service (Bürgerdienste International) as well as from the international human resources services of North Rhine-Westphalia (Internationaler Personalservice NRW) of the Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit) were there to answer their questions. New this year was that the companies received various student profiles with CVs that best matched their requirements and were able to choose whom they wanted to invite to an individual interview in the morning. “Apart from professional skills, international students have a special potential”, emphasized Professor Ursula Gather, Rector of TU Dortmund University, “because studying in a foreign language and in a different teaching and learning culture along with an often different everyday environment, demands a high adaptive performance and a great perseverance.”

During the lunch break, there was a raffle where all participants, who attended interviews with companies in the morning, could win two BVB home game tickets, sponsored by the Gesellschaft der Freunde der TU Dortmund. The lucky winner is Yasamin Mirzaei who is pursuing her Master’s degree in Manufacturing Technology. Guido Baranowski, the executive director of the TechnologieZentrumDortmund and chairman of the Gesellschaft der Freunde der TU Dortmund, congratulates the native Iranian on winning the prize.
