Refugees as visiting studentsflüchtlinge_header

TU Dortmund University invites refugees to get acquainted with the university as visiting students.

 

What does that mean?

As a visiting student you will be able

a) to take part in courses of one particular study course

b) to take part in different courses from various fields and faculties at TU Dortmund University

 

You will be able to get to know the course offerings of TU Dortmund University, and to get an insight into various scientific fields.

Since most courses will be taught in German, basic skills of the German language are recommended.

Your status as a visiting student will not 

  • allow you to take exams or get a degree.
  • entitle you to obtain the semester ticket for public transport.
  • allow you to apply for study financing (e.g. BAföG).
  • entitle you to a place in the regular degree program.
  • have any influence on the outcome of your asylum procedures.

 

This program is intended for asylum seekers who are at least 18 years old, whose application process is in progress (residence title) in or near Dortmund.

 

How does it work?

If you are interested in becoming a visiting student please visit the office hours in our International Office (Emil-Figge-Str. 61, 44227 Dortmund). Please find the current office hours of the admission office here.

 

We will help decide what courses to take and will take care of the practical arrangements. You will also receive a certificate of your status as a visiting student. If you would like to get information about pursuing a regular degree at TU Dortmund University you should also visit the International Office during the office hours mentioned above.

 


 Language training for refugees funded by TU Dortmund University

Since January 2017, TU Dortmund University provides funds for German language courses offered by cooperating language schools which prepare refugees for their future studies. These language courses are funded by the state of North Rhine Westphalia.

The online application is now open! Please apply here until February 28, 2017.

Open courses for refugees

TU Dortmund University kindly invites refugees to take part in a variety of public events in the city centre as well as on the campus.

Find out about interesting topics, improve your German languages skills, discover new places and get to know new people in Dortmund. You can find an overview about the courses that are offered here.

 


Certificate of consultation for uni-assist

If you apply for a Bachelor study program at TU Dortmund University, you need to send us your documents via uni-assist. Refugees can apply for an exemption from the application costs. You can find more Information here.

Classes by the Department of Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science offers selected classes for refugees from war and civil war who have studied Computer Science in their home countries. It contains a special study program with English lecutures and special student services. Good German or English language skills are a preccondition.
