DAAD STIBET Graduation Scholarship

TARGET APPLICANTS: ADMITTED STUDENTS AT THE TU DORTMUND UNIVERSITY ONLY!

TU Dortmund University offers graduation scholarships to international students several times a year. The graduation scholarship is meant to support international students finishing their studies who are in financial hardships by no fault of their own.

Info: Graduation scholarships can only be provided to students who have registered their thesis and who are in financial need.

To apply, please submit the following documents:

  • Completed application form
  • Confirmation of registration for your final thesis (page 9 of the application; to be filled out by the Examinations Office) (Prüfungsamt)
  • Current certificate of enrollment
  • Current overview of your grades
  • Copy of your residency permit
  • Bank statements from the last three months (December 2019 until February 2020)
  • Proof of a blocked account, legal obligation to pay, scholarship or earnings
  • If applicable, credit card statements for the last three months
  • If applicable, bank statements from your wife or husband
  • If applicable, a copy of your current work contract

Application Deadline: 16.02.2020

Please submit your application to the International Office on time (current application deadlines will always be announced here and in the News section). The scholarships will be awarded by a selection committee.

DAAD AWARD for International Students

TARGET APPLICANTS: ADMITTED STUDENTS AT THE TU DORTMUND UNIVERSITY ONLY!

The award - worth €1,000 - distinguishes an outstanding international student or doctoral candidate who has excelled through particular academic performance as well as remarkable social or intercultural commitment.

Nominations should be made timely, since the recommendations from the Dean’s Office must be submitted to the International Office by 1 September 2020. The Rectorate will subsequently review the nominations and pick the awardee.

Application requirements:

The candidates should study in

  • a Bachelor's degree program (at least 2nd or 3rd year)
  • a Master's degree program (at least 2nd semester) or
  • be pursuing their doctorate degree.
  • Those who have recently completed their studies may also be nominated.

Following documents must be submitted for the application process:

1. Nomination letter by the Dean of the faculty, International Student Advisor, Faculty Student Council, final thesis supervisor etc.

2. Tabular résumé of the candidate

3. Transcript of Records

4. Enrollment certificate

5. Proof of social or intercultural commitment at TU Dortmund University

6. One to three letters of recommendation from other parties, e.g. employer, previous professors, supervisors, tutors etc.

7. Motivational letter of the candidate or the applicant (briefly describe why you are applying for the DAAD Award 2019)

*Note: The DAAD Award is not a research award and therefore is not for the scientific acknowledgement of a doctoral thesis.

*The award money cannot be distributed among more than one person and cannot be awarded to DAAD scholarship recipients or to foreign students with a German education.

 

DAAD STIBET Matching Funds Scholarship

TARGET APPLICANTS: ADMITTED STUDENTS AT THE TU DORTMUND UNIVERSITY ONLY!

Once a year, during the months of September and October, TU Dortmund University accepts applications for the DAAD STIBET III Matching Funds Scholarship for international students.

A Matching Funds Scholarship requires a co-financer. Before submitting an application, interested students need to find a co-financer. This means the scholarship funds paid out will be divided between the co-financer and the DAAD.

Applicants are asked to submit the following information:

  • Completed application form (here)
  • Current enrollment certificate from TU Dortmund University (up to date)
  • Transcript of records
  • Letter of Commitment from co-financer
  • An official letter co-financer’s employer (employment confirmation)
  • CV of the applicant

The project ends in December 2019.

DAAD STIBET Community Engagement Grants

TARGET APPLICANTS: DOCTORAL CANDIDATES AT THE TU DORTMUND UNIVERSITY ONLY!

Within the scope of the DAAD project STIBET Doktoranden, funded by the Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt), the TU Dortmund provides community engagement grants for international doctoral candidates. The grant's aim is to support international doctoral candidates at the TU Dortmund who are characterized by a high community engagement in the international context related to the university. The goal is to honor community engagement, support it and motivate future involvement.

Who can apply?

The application is open for international doctoral candidates, who

  • have acquired their university entry qualification outside of Germany
  • are enrolled at TU Dortmund
  • distinguish themselves by extraordinary community engagement in international affairs related to TU Dortmund

Extent and duration of funding:

The extent of the funding is minimum €250/month and the grants are awarded for 6 months. Extensions up to 12 months may be possible.

  • Proof of distinguished community engagement in the international context related to the university
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Transcript of records
  • Enrollment certificate

The Martin-Schmeißer-Foundation


The Martin-Schmeißer-Foundation offers scholarships to students and graduates in need of financial support during their short-term research stay abroad to complete their final thesis.

The purpose of a Martin-Schmeißer-Scholarship is to sponsor Bachelor's and Master's theses.

Scholarship Stipulations: applicant’s thesis must require at least two months of research abroad. Furthermore, total scholarship funding is limited to a maximum of €1,500.

Please note: the annual application deadline is from 15 February until 15 September.

Application requirements:

  • a description of your project on no more than three pages (formatting can be individual, but should be Word-processed).
  • Please state clearly why a stay abroad is important for completing your thesis.
  • a recommendation from the supervising professor, i.e. the professor who will be supervising your thesis
  • a declaration from your advisor stating that a stay abroad is necessary for thesis-related research
  • a statement from the foreign institution declaring that they will host you during your thesis research
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • a higher education entrance qualification (Abiturzeugnis) and a transcript of records
  • a statement of costs

We would kindly like to remind you that double funding is not possible.

The Scholarship Database of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)

The DAAD scholarship database includes all programs offered by the DAAD as well as other support organizations for international students, academics and researchers who are looking for sources of funding to complete their studies or research stays in Germany.

Apart from the programs listed on the DAAD website, there are more offers in terms of academic support that are not mentioned in the database.
