Official Letters and Credit Transfers

All applicants will receive one of the following official letters ca. 4-8 weeks after the application deadline:

Letter of Admission

An official letter will be sent to all successful applicants within 4-6 weeks after the application deadline informing them about the results of their application. The letter of admission states all dates and formalities for enrollment. With the letter of admission, you can apply for a visa.

Letter of Rejection

Letters of rejection stating the reasons for the rejection are mailed within 8 weeks after the application deadline.

Transfer of Credits from Foreign Universities

During the evaluation of individual applications for admission, the Referat Internationales (International Office) reviews the possibilities of credit transfer, and, if applicable, passes the documents on to the respective academic department, which will then decide on the credit transfer.

To apply for admission starting in a summer semester is only possible if the applicant can be admitted into an advanced semester in their degree program. Prerequisite for such an admission is the completion of previous semesters at a foreign or German university in the same degree program.

As of winter semester 2007/08 the diploma degree programs at TU Dortmund University have been converted into the Bachelor/Master system. Whether a transfer of credits from a foreign university results in an admission into the diploma degree program or already into the Bachelor/Master program is regulated by the respective departmental Studienordungen.

Academic Prerequisites

To be allowed to study at a German university, international applicants need to hold an equivalent of the German university entrance qualification, the Abitur. Applicants usually fulfill that requirement if they attended non-specialized schools for at least 12 years. You can find specific information on your home country at following Webpage ».

Here are a few examples:

People’s Republic of China: Please check the back side of your APS certificate. There you will find the notice on the university entrance qualification.

Turkey: If you attended a non-specialized school (no Imam Hatip Lisesi!) for at least 12 years and received a university placement through ÖSYS, then you can be admitted for the same degree program as your placement in Turkey at a German university, if you achieved a specific minimum number of points (1999-2002: 120.000 points, 2003-2005: 185.000 points). In case you do not fulfill one or more of these conditions, please check with the Referat Internationales  (International Office), whether your qualifications suffice for university admission, or whether you first have to attend a Studienkolleg (cf. page 43).

Cameroon: If you received a Baccalaureat with a final grade of at least 10, you can apply directly to a German university. Please note that you are restricted in your choice of degree program by the subjects of your Baccalaureat. (You can find information on your choices at following Webpage »).

Morocco: In addition to the Baccalaureat you need to submit proof of successful completion of at least one year at an accredited university. Then you can apply for admission into the same degree program at a German university.

Please note: TU Dortmund University is not required to recognize an admission by another university or the confirmation of a university entrance qualification other than by the Central Office for Foreign Education (Zentralstelle für ausländisches Bildungswesen).
