What Are the Language Requirements?

 

Most classes at TU Dortmund University are taught in German.

In order to complete your studies successfully, you need to have a good knowledge of the German language. You need to prove your German skills with a language proficiency test.

Exceptions to this rule are the English-language study programs. For these programs you will need the necessary proof of your English abilities. Information about this can be found below.

 

The following tests are recognized by TU Dortmund University:
  • German Language Certificate for University Entrance (DSH): level 2 or 3. Only certificates from universities, institutions of higher education and preparatory colleges whose examination regulations are registered at the German Rectors' Conference are recognized.

  • Language Certificate ‘German as a foreign language’ (TestDaF): Score TDN min.16

  • German Language Diploma (Level 2) from the German Standing Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (Deutsches Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz Zweite Stufe- DSD II)

  • Goethe-Certificate C2 (Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom/GDS)

  • Goethe-Certificate (Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung/ZOP)

  • Minor or Major german Language Diploma (KDS or GDS) from the Goethe Institute

  • telc C1 Hochschule certificate with an overall of "ausreichend" (sufficient) or higher

 

 

German Language Courses

TU Dortmund University does not offer any preparatory German language courses. If you have to take such a course, please contact a private language course provider.

 

Language requirements - English:

Please find information about the required English language skills for the Bachelor and Master programs "Angewandte Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaften", "Angewandte Sprachwissenschaften" and "Lehramt Englisch" on the websites of the faculties.
