Cultural Corner: Teaching and Learning Styles


18.04.2019 – Have you ever been in a classroom with students from all over the world and noticed differences in the learning and teaching styles? Did you wonder why some students don´t search eye contact with the teachers to show respect, and for others this behavior seems inappropriate? Or why some students frown upon group work and for others it seems to come naturally?


TU Dortmund University Receives 20 Million Euro Grant from NRW as “Excellence Start-up Center”


18.04.2019 – TU Dortmund University is an “Excellence Start-up Center”: Late Thursday evening, it was announced that the university had won the grant competition of the state of NRW. Over a period of five years, around 20 million euros will be made available to enable TU Dortmund University to increase the number and quality of innovative spin-offs and to optimally support start-ups.


Goethe-Institut, University Alliance Ruhr and DAAD further expand the Studienbrücke Program


18.04.2019 – The aim of the Studienbrücke („Study Bridge“) Program is to attract students from abroad to study at higher education institutions in Germany, thereby providing them with a perfect springboard for a career in Germany or worldwide. Since 2015 under the Studienbrücke Program, the Goethe-Institut, the University Alliance Ruhr and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) have been preparing foreign secondary school students in so far 18 countries for a course of study at a German university. In the presence of the Minister of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia, Isabel Pfeiffer-Poensgen, the partners signed a memorandum of understanding on March 8th to expand the Studienbrücke Program.


In Focus: Researching Media Worldwide


18.04.2019 – High award for the promotion of young talent: this year, the MERCUR Award, endowed with €20,000, goes to the post graduate project School of International and Intercultural Communication (SIIC) of the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr). The prize is sponsored by the FUNKE Media Group and the RAG-Stiftung.


Cultural Theorist Dr. Mark Schmitt Receives the Rudolf Chaudoire-Prize


18.04.2019 – Dr. Mark Schmitt from the Faculty of Cultural Studies was awarded the Rudolf Chaudoire-Prize as an outstanding up-and-coming researcher. On 19 February 2019, TU Dortmund University honored him with a festive award ceremony.


Physicist of TU Dortmund University back after one year in the eternal ice


18.04.2019 – In October 2017 Johannes Werthebach (33) traveled from TU Dortmund University to the IceCube neutrino observatory in Antarctica and stayed for one year at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole research station. Now the astrophysicist and doctoral student of the Faculty of Physics is back at the university.


Stärkere Vernetzung mit Japan


18.04.2019 – Die TU Dortmund stärkt ihre Kooperation mit Japan und ist nun assoziierter Unterstützer des Deutschen Wissenschafts- und Innovationshaus Tokyo (DWIH Tokyo).
